Karura Community Engagement at the Water Pan

On 12th February 2026, the ACCRI team, Caritas Embu, and community members convened for a community meeting at the Karura water pan in Karura.

The meeting provided an opportunity to introduce new ACCRI volunteers to the Karura community and to engage residents in discussions around the maintenance and sustainability of the water pan. Community members openly shared the challenges they face in managing the facility, including upkeep and collective responsibility.

Through dialogue, the community resolved to organize themselves more effectively in order to address the identified challenges and improve management of the water pan. The discussions reflected a strong sense of ownership and willingness to work together toward sustainable solutions.

The Caritas Mbeu Programme also took part in the meeting, sensitizing community members on saving and loan opportunities. The programme received a positive response, with community members expressing interest in joining as a means of strengthening household resilience.

The engagement was described as fruitful, marked by active participation, constructive dialogue and renewed commitment from the community.
